“Not Yours” by Heather Freeman
A woman’s body belongs to herself and herself alone. This pro-choice, pro-woman art piece strives to drive this point home as firmly and diversely as possible. 50% of the proceeds will go to the National Network of Abortion Funds.
Available as greeting cards, postcards, prints, and posters.

I’m pro-choice because the personhood of a embryo/fetus is irrelevant: no person has the right to impose themselves on another’s body.
I’m pro-choice because without the right and ability to say no, we lack the ability to say yes.
I’m pro-choice because every child should have the right to be a chosen child, whether or not their conception was intended.
I’m pro-choice because parenthood is way too damned hard for anyone to be forced into it.
I’m pro-choice because people with uteruses are, y’know, people, and capable of making their own decisions.
I’m pro-choice because there’s no way to ban abortion without upping the death rate of women.
I’m pro-choice because intended or not (and I’d argue it mostly is), the outcomes of abortion bans are misogynist and reify patriarchy.
I’m pro-choice because I refuse to tell you what to do with your body, and I wish the same right extended to me.
I’m pro-choice because banning abortion doesn’t help recognize the personhood of children, it removes the personhood of people with uteruses.

This Novemember 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hate and prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance serves several purposes. It raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people, an action that current media doesn’t perform. Day of Remembrance publicly mourns and honors the lives of our brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten. Through the vigil, we express love and respect for our people in the face of national indifference and hatred. Day of Remembrance reminds non-transgender people that we are their sons, daughters, parents, friends and lovers. Day of Remembrance gives our allies a chance to step forward with us and stand in vigil, memorializing those of us who’ve died by anti-transgender violence. [tdor.org]
I urge my followers, and the followers of those who may have reblogged this to tint your icon purple on Novemeber 20th in honor and support to those who are transgender and to pay respects to those who have passed because they were simply being who they are. I think too often the T is thought of separate from the LGBT, but in reality we are all equal and we are in this life together, side by side.(via historicalslut)

Like most women, I currently live in a society where violence, harassment and scary shit can break out at any moment, just because I told some random asshole “no” without bothering to be nice about it. Doing that is so dangerous that most women don’t dare; after a few scary incidents, they learn to make up excuses, to smile, to be sweet and welcoming, to act as if every single random asshole on the street is a precious new friend that they would just LOVE to stand outside of the Chipotle and chat with FOR HOURS, if only cruel fate had not intervened. That’s what it’s actually like, being a woman: Playing nice with every random asshole, because this random asshole might be the one who hurts you. And then, if he hurts you anyway, they’ll tell you that you led him on.

Plus, better music. Think about it. Liberals got The Beatles, Willie Nelson, Nirvana, Common, Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., Rage Against The Machine,
Conservatives have one guy in shitty, imitation rock band KISS (bleh), the racist guy from the Ramones, drug-glorifying sexist 50 Cent, and every line-dancing, wedding/bar-mitzvah douchebag cowboy singer (and even Toby Keith voted for Obama.).
Clearly, Conservatives are incapable of decent popular art.

this is why i shouldn’t be ‘friends’ with assholes i went to high school with on facebook. 36 people ‘liked’ this? this was my response:
this is what i’m talking about- this person IS the 99% but they don’t get it. 90% of their tuition has been paid for and they went to a tax-funded university, but they ‘never expect to have anything handed to them.’ right. we don’t blame the government or wall street for anything, but let’s just examine what it is that the 99% is actually protesting, shall we?
14 million americans are looking for work and can’t find it, and it’s easier to blame them for being lazy than it is to blame a system that has been broken for so log. the top 1% owns 42% of the financial wealth in the country. the top 5% owns nearly 70%. the bottom 80% owns just 7% of the financial wealth in america. however, the bottom 90% owns 73% of the nation’s debt. because when you work hard and go to college and you graduate in a time of economic uncertainty, you’re bound to rake in some [a lot] of debt. a college degree isn’t enough to find a job anymore.
furthermore, the top earners are paying significantly less in taxes than the bottom earners. to spell that out in terms the person who made this sign clearly cannot understand, the government decided that the people who are making 350x more than the average earner should not have to pay more taxes. they should pay less because conservatives believe that the money they save on taxes will be pumped back into the economy. and here’s the coincidence, and you’re not going to believe this: since those tax breaks have been put into place, the country has fallen further and further into debt. THAT’S SO WEIRD. you mean these people aren’t showering the poor with their money, but they’re putting it in off-shore bank accounts and stocks? i would have never guessed that would happen.
this is the lowest number of people with jobs since the early 80s. and yet while millions of people are unemployed, profits in [y]our country are at an all-time high. CEOs are being paid 350 times what workers are paid on average. that’s up 33% in 2 decades. and the disparity between the top 0.01% and everyone else hasn’t been this great since the 20s. the average worker’s salary hasn’t increased in 50 years. do you know who decides that? i’ll give you a hint: it’s not the people who you’ve deemed aren’t working hard enough. you can work as hard as you can and still not make a living wage. it’s the government. your country’s income disparity is so great that you ranked 93rd in the world for income equality. that’s weird, i thought america was #1. and while i’m on that topic, you know what else we’re not #1 at? quality of healthcare, infant survival, scientific literacy, effectiveness of education, freedom of the press. bottom line is this: when you breed a country of stupid people who have no real access to current affairs, it should not be surprising when people begin to protest a good cause that wants to benefit everyone.
americans revere capitalism as proof of the american dream, but that’s been failing for some time now. social mobility is at an all-time low, making it nearly impossible for someone to become one of the top 1%. that’s probably why you have so many desperate people willing to do anything on television to win a few thousand dollars. the truth is that in america, success is almost all luck or good breeding. in what other country could george w bush go to yale?
meanwhile, banks have been bailed out but refused to hold up to their end of the deal, so lending is at an all-time low for the american people [remember all of those small businesses that conservatives said would succeed? the ones that were alive have failed and the ones who hadn’t been born yet were denied a loan], but not the american government. plus, they are raking in interest for NOT lending, and borrowing money for nothing. so since the banks are lending to the government and earning interest on money that they are not lending, they make billions of dollars at the expense of, for example, the american small business owner, who was denied a loan. in fact, they’re earning something to the tune of $58 billion in 6 months. and that’s PROFIT. so basically, the financial sector is earning record profits while the rest of the country struggles with 14 million people unemployed. and by the way, that number i keep using, the 14 million? that’s just people who are deemed unemployed by our government. this doesn’t take into account the underemployed or people who haven’t been unemployed for long enough. in america, you have standards, you know? so while over 14 million people are unemployed, the average banker in new york is making $361, 330. the average wall street salary is six times that of the average private sector salary [which of course means it is probably even higher than the average government salary, logic would dictate]. and when you make that much, you can invest in stocks and further propel your wealth. the rich get richer. much, much richer. but it’s obviously just because they worked super hard and the rest of us are lazy hippies who are expecting government handouts. right. keep blaming the working middle class because that’s what you’ve been taught to do.
No amount of words can express the love I have for you.
